ASU researchers in Second International Forest Policy Meeting in Wageningen


On April 11-14 two ASU researchers from the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Ecology visited Second International Forest Policy Meeting, which took place in Wageningen, Netherlands. Assoc. prof. dr. Marius Kavaliauskas from the Institute of Forest Management and Wood Science made an oral presentation „Analysis of Forest Policy Processes implement reform of state forest enterprises in Lithuania“ and co-authored an oral presentation „Protecting or destructing? Local perceptions of environmental considerations in Lithuanian forest management“. Lect. dr. Ekaterina Makrickiene from the Institute of Forest Biology and Silviculture made an oral presentation „Analysis of command-and-control forest governance model in Lithuania and Slovakia“. The participants of the conference raised and discussed questions related to sustainable forest management, problem of deforestation, conflicts on forest arena and communication between forest practitioners, scientists and society. During the field excursion to the forest estate Kroondomein Het Loo, the researchers got acquainted with the relevant problems of Dutch forestry and management practices in the productive an d protected forest areas. Friendly and professional atmosphere at the conference definitely provided the possibilities for closer communication with the foreign colleagues and possible future collaborations.
